Leading UK Biomass Heating Supplier Established in 1999, Econergy are an acknowledged UK leader in the supply and installation of commercial, industrial and domestic biomass (ie wood fuelled) heating and district heating systems for schools, universities, council offices, country estates and major commercial developments.
This sector is poised on the edge of substantial growth due to the introduction of the November 2008 Energy Act which will bring substantial financial support for heat from wood boilers by 2011, through a Government Renewable Heat Incentive. This market has the potential to grow to 8% of all heat by 2020 which is the equivalent of heating over 3 million homes (although much of it will actually go to schools, council buildings, offices, hospitals etc.).
On the 1st April 2009, Centrica Plc, through its British Gas New Energy division announced that it has acquired a 19 per cent share of Econergy Ltd, for a cash consideration of £1 million. The British Gas New Energy Division (a relatively small but rapidly growing team) focuses on building integrated renewable energy and energy saving (loft insulation, cavity walls insulation etc.).
